Italian families are becoming more efficient: the adoption of heat pumps and autonomous systems is growing.

In 2025, the efficiency of Italian homes will increase: more heat pumps, autonomous systems, and integrated systems for more sustainable energy management.

The new 2025 report on domestic energy equipment in Italy shows a clear shift in home energy management. More and more families are choosing autonomous systems, heat pumps, and efficient air conditioning systems , reducing their reliance on centralized systems and improving overall energy performance. This transformation marks a tangible step toward greater autonomy and sustainability, albeit with significant regional differences.

A constant evolution in domestic energy equipment

By 2025, nearly 80% of Italian homes will have an independent heating or air conditioning system, while centralized systems account for just 15%. At the same time, the use of air conditioning continues to grow: over half of households own at least one, with the highest prevalence in central and southern Italy.

The data highlights a progressive adaptation to changing climatic conditions, with increasingly frequent heat waves and a consequent increase in electricity demand for summer cooling.

Heat pumps: the technology that symbolizes new efficiency

Among the most popular solutions, heat pumps are experiencing significant growth: over 40% of Italian families own one, an increase compared to previous years. This technology is emerging as one of the key drivers of the domestic energy transition , thanks to its ability to combine thermal comfort and emissions reduction.

This success is also linked to incentives and energy bonuses that continue to encourage the replacement of traditional boilers with more efficient systems, driving demand for low-consumption electrical solutions.

North and South: two speeds in the race for efficiency

Despite progress, significant regional disparities persist. In the Northeast, the share of homes equipped with efficient central heating or combined heating and hot water systems exceeds 80%, while on the Islands, it hovers below 40%.

At the same time, the number of households with more than one energy system is growing, combining heat pumps, biomass systems, or individual systems to better manage comfort and savings. This "multi-system" approach highlights a trend toward greater flexibility and customization of technological choices.

A structural transformation of the domestic energy market

Improving efficiency in Italian homes is no longer a future goal, but an ongoing reality. The evolution of household equipment contributes to reducing consumption, decarbonizing the building stock, and increasing demand for innovative technologies.

Consolidating these results will require targeted support policies for areas still lagging behind and continuous updating of technical skills, ensuring increasingly efficient, safe, and sustainable energy management in Italian homes.
