Perugia, Italy – DeWALT Industrial Tools, a subsidiary of the global manufacturing giant Stanley Black & Decker, has successfully implemented a large-scale evaporative cooling system at its Perugia facility to combat rising summer temperatures and improve working conditions.
Located in a 14,000-square-metre site, with 9,000 square metres dedicated to production, the Perugia plant manufactures professional wood-cutting tools and demolition hammers. In recent years, the site has faced increasingly harsh summer conditions, with temperatures regularly soaring above 35°C. These conditions had begun to severely impact employee comfort and productivity.
In line with the company’s strong commitment to environmental responsibility, DeWALT sought a cooling solution that would not only improve indoor air quality and reduce heat but also align with their sustainability values.
Following a consultation with HVAC specialist Italkero, DeWALT selected Breezair evaporative coolers as the ideal solution. Manufactured by Seeley International, Breezair systems are known for their high energy efficiency and minimal environmental impact, using only water and a small amount of electricity to operate.
"Italkero’s professionalism and the proven performance of Breezair made the decision easy," said the plant’s EHS & Facility Manager. "The system offered an eco-friendly, cost-effective, and reliable answer to our climate challenges."
The installation took place over three phases between 2019 and 2021. It included:
-
27 Breezair TBS580 units installed on the roof with vertical supply ducting,
-
17 Breezair TBS580 units mounted on external walls with horizontal ducts,
-
All units controlled via MagIQtouch wall controllers for intuitive operation and grouped zone management.
The results have exceeded expectations. Indoor temperatures in the production area are now consistently maintained at 27°C during the hottest months, significantly improving employee comfort and productivity. Additionally, the solution met the plant’s goals for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Both employees and management have expressed strong satisfaction with the project outcomes, and DeWALT is now evaluating plans to extend the cooling system to the remaining 4,000 square metres of the facility. The successful installation also led to the decision to install a CW3 multi-cycle indirect evaporative cooler in the canteen, further enhancing comfort and energy efficiency across the site.
This initiative highlights DeWALT’s forward-thinking approach to workplace well-being and sustainability, setting a benchmark for industrial climate control solutions in the region.
