INNOVATION ELEMENTS FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY

The main element of innovation in the hybrid ceiling module U44 by  MWH-Barcol Air  is the inclusion of the building mass in the energy management of the building. The building has, from a thermal perspective, dynamic behaviour. Unlike static behaviour, where the full thermal loads has to be removed during operating time, a room with dynamic behaviour means that the thermal load is removed also outside operating time. Therefore the load is removed over the entire day/night cycle. During the day, the arising heat quantity is removed only partly. The other part is stored in the concrete ceiling. This  heat quantity is taken of  the concrete at night. The next day the concrete reservoir can optimally absorb the arising heat again.

This system implements the concept of buildings with TABS system (Thermally Active Building Systems) that is  widely used in central-European countries, trying to improve certain aspects that may not be compatible with current needs.
•    Design and sizing of the system not referring to the peak loads, but to a lower value since the required cooling is distributed over longer periods;
•    Activation of the building mass from outside with a consequent reduction of the long lead times that are typical for TABS systems;
•    Possibility of free cooling mode and with lower water temperatures in any case;
•    Possibility  of use during restructuring (thickness of only 7 cm.);
•    Sound absorption given by the panel surface of U45.
•    Higher yield on the contribution of the radiant panel as well as on the contribution of the slab active-ceiling;
•    Ability to merge into a single climate system, ventilation, lighting and sound absorption
