IEA Report – technology can transform energy system

The International Energy Agency (IEA), operating to guarantee clean and free energy in 28 countries, said that there are a host of new technologies ready to transform the energy system in order to reduce carbon emissions, enhance energy security and generate a huge investment return.

In its Report, Energy Technology Perspectives 2012 (ETP 2012), builds on Tracking Clean Energy Progress report, IEA explains how to enable and encourage technologies and behaviours that together will revolutionise the entire energy system and unlock tremendous economic benefits between now and 2050.

Maria van der Hoeven, IEA Executive Director, said that “if significant policy action is taken, we can still achieve the huge potential for these technologies to reduce CO2 emissions and boost energy security”.

The Agency presents an investment plan that more than pays for itself through fuel savings by 2025 and savings will be triple by 2050. IEA required an investment of 36 USD trillion to overhaul the world’s current energy system by the middle of the century and this investment would be offset by USD 100 trillion in savings through reduced use of fossil fuels.
The plan can increase the global temperature increase.
The project leads to a sustainable energy system featuring diverse sources, low-carbon electricity and an expanded infrastructure.
