Efficienza energetica, sono ancora molti gli sforzi da compiere per soddisfare gli obiettivi climatici
The IEA report highlights the need to double the rates of improvement in energy efficiency by 2030

In 2023, world governments intensified actions to enhance energy efficiency, providing economic benefits to consumers and improving global energy security and sustainability.
However, these efforts are still insufficient to meet international climate goals, as highlighted in the recent "Energy Efficiency 2023" report by the International Energy Agency (IEA).
Energy efficiency: doubling targets by 2023
The study points out that following the energy crisis triggered by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, political commitment to energy efficiency has seen significant growth. Since 2020, investments in this sector have increased by 45%, and many countries have strengthened or introduced new policies to improve energy efficiency. Progress includes the dissemination of standards for air conditioners and industrial motors. Despite these initiatives, global energy intensity slowed down in 2023, influenced by economic recovery in energy-intensive sectors and high demand for air conditioning.
The IEA argues that to limit global warming to the Paris Agreement target of 1.5°C, it is crucial to double the annual rates of improvement in energy efficiency by 2030. Fatih Birol, IEA's executive director, emphasized in the report the importance of doubling progress in energy efficiency ahead of the upcoming COP28 climate conference in Dubai. A global commitment in this direction is seen as essential to achieving ambitious climate goals and supporting energy security.
The benefits of doubling energy efficiency
The report also indicates that doubling energy efficiency would bring considerable benefits in terms of emission reductions, energy savings, and job creation. For example, universal adoption of LED technology in the USA could generate significant energy savings. Additionally, improving global energy efficiency by 2030 could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 7 billion tons, with impacts comparable to those of the global transport sector.
