After the success of the 2024 edition, the reference event for the biofuels sector in Europe is back. On 29 and 30 October 2025 , the city of Gothenburg (Sweden) will host the 7th edition of the European Conference Future of Biofuels , an international event that aims to analyze market prospects, regulatory developments and technological innovations related to alternative and sustainable fuels.
The biofuel sector is currently facing a profound change: the adaptation to European regulations, including FuelEU, Fit for 55, REPowerEU and the Renewable Energy Directive (RED), poses new challenges but also great opportunities. The spotlight will be on crucial issues such as the traceability of fuels through the Union Database for Biofuels (UDB) , the development of new supply chains for bio and alternative fuels , the adoption of SAF for aviation , the evolution of eFuels and the concrete application of the regulation in transport.
During the two days, participants will be able to attend high-level presentations , discuss case studies of ongoing projects and listen to the point of view of experts from the entire supply chain: raw material producers, energy suppliers, transport and shipping companies, investors, regulators, market analysts, consultants and technologists.
One of the most anticipated aspects will be the in-depth analysis of the role of biofuels in the European Union's Net Zero strategy . The industry will have to deal with the volatility of raw material prices (such as vegetable oils) while ensuring environmental sustainability and economic competitiveness.
Main topics of the conference
Participants will have the opportunity to explore the most relevant topics for the present and future of the sector, including:
-
Regulatory developments at both European and national levels, with a specific focus on FuelEU Maritime, Fit for 55, REPowerEU, and the revision of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED).
-
Development of new supply chains for biofuels and alternative fuels, especially in hard-to-electrify sectors such as aviation and maritime transport.
-
Fuel traceability through the Union Database for Biofuels (UDB) and its alignment with the RED II Directive.
-
Technologies for the storage, bunkering, and handling of new fuels, which are essential for their widespread adoption.
-
Technical insights into the production technologies of PtL (Power-to-Liquid), eFuels, bioethanol, and SAF, along with their applications across different industries.
-
Market outlook for the next 10 years, considering economic, environmental, and strategic challenges.
Why participate?
