The pros and cons of mobile apps for HVAC systems

What are the pros and cons of developing mobile apps for the American HVAC industry? A study reveals it.
In the Era of Mobile Web, there are applications for almost everything, and every day the offer is getting richer and richer.

The evolution of mobile technology, the revolution in mobile telephony, caused by the introduction of smartphones and tablets, the adoption of more accessible and affordable tariff plans for broadband connection, the world's population lifestyle changes, oriented towards immediate responses and constant updates, are increasingly opening the door to the app market, the HVAC included.

This is well known, for example, by those American companies currently investing in mobile apps for business, in order to get closer to their customers in a more direct way, and to gain a competitive advantage in business.
More and more American HVAC companies have already launched their own application, able to reach a continuously increasing number of potential or real customers, with minimal initial investments.

Therefore, you may find some customers, in today’s America, receiving push notifications to remind them to change the air filters of their conditioning systems, for example, or using apps to calculate the power required by a single local for winter and summer heating, or to find the correct law or regulation to be included in the declaration of conformity.

But what are the pros and cons of mobile apps for business, at least according to the study published by The NEWS, that is, the online magazine for professionals operating in the HVAC American industry?

In most cases, the companies interviewed have admitted that they do not do as much with their apps as they probably should, mainly because the cost, or, the lack of it, diverted their attention.

When you create a business application, it is therefore important to pay due attention to it.

In this regard, Deanna Mason, co-owner of Mason Mechanical, in Arizona (USA), suggests to plan a strategy to maximize the opportunities offered by mobile apps for business.

Good ideas not put into practice, could lead to creative paralysis and the stagnation of your newly-born application, as occurred with Mrs. Mason’s first application.

Mason Mechanical’s application was, in fact, firstly neglected, and only later pulled out of the box, by virtue of its great potential: a business strategy was then planned, the application was launched online to spread the company’s heating and cooling services among its customers, and, most importantly, a person dedicated to its management was finally chosen.

Therefore, if you decide to create an application to promote a service intended for a specific target, in most cases, it is fundamental to select a specific person in charge of its management and control.

Currently, Mason Mechanical’s application has turned into an authentic marketing tool, including, among others, material available for download, push notifications and a gallery of photos. The company too has benefited from it, in terms of structural and workforce expansion.

The development of an app for business, therefore, could mean, not only structural, but also workforce expansion, through the creation of new jobs and new professional roles.

It now seems certain that, according to data provided by The NEWS for the American HVAC market, mobile applications for business represent a more direct way for companies to get closer to their customers, to win new ones or retain the existing ones. Needless to say, applications for business have turned into an authentic marketing tool, thanks to which companies are allowed to be always present in customers’ thoughts and tablets, smartphones, or other mobile devices, gaining a competitive advantage in business.

Customers, on the other hand, could finally see their needs fully satisfied, in any place and at any time, and in just a few clicks.

According to the magazine’s research, mobile technologies and their applications have truly allowed American HVAC companies to increase their productivity and efficiency.

Considering the fact that Italy holds the world record for the purchase, possession and use of smartphone devices (estimated at around 28%), what could possibly be the effects due to the creation and dissemination of mobile applications for business on the country’s economy and labor market?
