SFERASOL: something new under the sun
To make a comparison with commercially-available systems, Sferasol can be compared with a sun-tracking solar panel to produce hot water for domestic use with the help of direct and diffuse solar energy: exept that it´s not a solar panel.
The spherical shape, an italian design, constantly has one surface exposed to the sun´s rays: at practically any time of day and in every season. In fact, there is always one side directly lit by direct radiation, but, unlike common flat solar panels, SFERASOL also makes the most of diffuse radiation, which during a clear day makes up 10% of total radiation, while during a cloudy day, it can reach up to 50%.
-A 2m2 flat panel would provide the same maximum absorption and yield from 11am to 3pm, whereas using Sferasol, best results are to be found from 9am to 6pm, ensuring constant operation during the span of the whole day.
Sferasol is equivalent to a constantly exposed 2.2m - 2.8m surface of traditional solar panels.
