Fernox appoints Charel Marais as General Manager

Having joined Fernox in 2021, Charel Marais has spent the last four years successfully leading the European sales organisation and more recently overseeing the global supply chain. With over 21 years of experience in senior HVAC roles, Charel is a highly respected and experienced figure in the market. His deep knowledge of the sector and ability to understand customer needs will allow him to play a key role in shaping the future of the company.

Commenting on his appointment, Marais said: “ I am honoured and excited to take on this role. This is an exciting time for Fernox as we continue to refine and enhance our range of high-quality water treatment chemicals and filtration systems. Charel Marais takes over from Ernie McDonald , who retired at the end of March after a long career in the industry. With 26 years’ experience, Ernie has made a significant impact, helping to establish the first Benchmark scheme and serving as the first Chairman of the Domestic Water Treatment Association (now BEAMA Water). His impact on the industry has been lasting and valuable.

Having joined Fernox in 1999, Ernie has helped to establish the company’s culture of excellence, which last year celebrated its 60th anniversary. Although he is stepping down from his current role, he will continue to support Charel and the team as a Senior Adviser.

Passing the baton to Charel, McDonald said: “ I am confident that under Charel’s leadership, Fernox will continue to thrive, maintaining our strong commitment to innovation and success in the industry.
