Europe loses its primacy in the photovoltaic market overtaken by China, Japan and the USA

(Bruxelles) A new survey reveals tha China is now the first Market in the world, followed by Japan and USA.
According to the data obtained by Osservatorio per le Energie Rinnovabili realised by Silvio Tronchetti Provera Foundation and Regione Lombardia, Europe is no longer in first place for the production of energy from photovoltaic systems, outdated by extra EU countries.

China's is the new leader in the global PV industry with a new installed capacity of 8.6 GW, followed by Japan with 6.3 GW and USA 4.2 GW.

Italy, which in 2012 was in third place on a global scale, records an installed capacity of 1.26 GW, with a turnover of more than halved to about 6.2 billion compared to 2012.
This slowdown seems originated from the lower prices and the downturn in the market.

Tronchetti Provera, chairman of the Fondazione Silvio Tronchetti Provera, said: "data show that Europe and therefore Italy are losing competitiveness. The loss of the Italian PV market requires the country to respond quickly by investing in new technologies to find solutions more efficient and competitive and to reduce costs”.

However, in 2013, there has been a growth in the markets of Eastern Europe, which in 2012 had already made important progress favored by government incentive policies.

Europe continues to play a lead role in the photovoltaic market, but counts for only 30% of new installations, which instead show a boom in the international market, with a growth of 128% between 2011 and 2012. In some cases, this growth was favored, as for the case of USA, by the renewal of incentive programs and the announced construction of new large-scale plants.
