Dario Flaccovio Editore Srl
Dario Flaccovio and Marisa Dolcemascolo opened a bookshop in the suburbs of Palermo in 1972, in a district that is the new centre of the city nowadays.
In a short time they saw the potential of the scientific and the technical fields, two areas in continous evolution and full of chances, surely more than fiction, an unstable market segment, often controlled by media.
Therefore Dario and Marisa decided to specialize in scientific and technical books, that they started to offer along with novels, becoming very soon a benchmark for professionals all over the city.
Afterwards, Dario wanted to realize his greatest passion: publishing. It was 1980. First of all, he released “Tecniche costruttive e risparmio energetico” by Luigi Caleca and Antonio Cottone, a work that show how sensitive the publisher was (and still is) to unexplored themes. It’s the birth of Dario Flaccovio Editore. The Company became immediately a reference point in Italy, realizing a revolutionary project after a few years: professionals could buy technical softwares enclosed to handbooks at very low price in all bookshops. The series was called “Programmi in Basic”, then became “Book&Floppy” and now is “CD Book”.
Dario Flaccovio Editore´s books have achieved the top position today as a professional tool in scientific and technical sectors, thanks to their innovative setting and high quality content, essential both for students and professionals who need up-to-date information.
It’s one of the few publishers still having editing, graphic and typesetting sectors within the company, in order to preserve the unmistakable style that has been characterizing its production for more than thirty years.
Since its birth, the Company also publishes, for passion and love for arts, books about Sicily and Palermo in particular, focusing especially on architecture, arts and folklore.
Lately Dario Flaccovio Editore publishes fiction and thriller novels (including important writers among its authors, such as Loriano Macchiavelli, Giampaolo Simi, Giuseppe D´Agata, Nicoletta Vallorani, Giacomo Cacciatore and Licia Giaquinto), and epic fantasy novels too (including the first italian fantasy novel ever, “Ethlinn” by Egle Rizzo). Many titles are translated in foreign countries.
In 2005 Dario Flaccovio received the Culture Prize from the Italian Prime Minister’s Presidential Office.
Dario Flaccovio Editore is a member of Fidare, the Italian Federation of Independent Publishers.
