Senertec Kraft-wärme-energiesysteme Gmbh
SenerTec Kraft-Wärme-Energiesysteme GmbH based in Schweinfurt, Germany was founded in 1996. The original purpose was to manufacture the Dachs, a small-scale Combined Heat and Power (CHP) unit. The Dachs successfully penetrated the German market, allowing SenerTec to develop a distribution network with 30 SenerTec Centres and 350 Partners throughout Germany. Since then SenerTec has grown to 120 employees.
The history
SenerTec’s roots date back to Fichtel & Sachs the well-known supplier for the car industry. In 1979 a one-cylinder four-stroke combustion engine for an air/water heat pump was developed. Due to the oil crisis and a big decrease of oil prices the heat pump was no longer economical. The break-through invention of a reliable combustion engine with long maintenance intervals, long lifetime, state-of-the-art emissions and noise level existed, but the market for this product no longer existed. The decision was made to aim for another market sector. Some small alterations were made to finally manufacture the Dachs, a small scale CHP unit. The low temperature cycle was replaced with a self-developed 3-phase generator driven by the engine. Since 1979 a combustion engine has always been part of the unit. In 1989 first field tests with more than 140 units started. Some of these units are still working reliably in different applications.
Experience gained in 1995 and 1996, led to the decision to commence serial production of the Dachs. At the same time Mannesmann AG took over Fichtel & Sachs and defined a new business policy focussing on the core market, the car supply sector. The former Energy department of Fichtel & Sachs was converted into a separate company, SenerTec GmbH.
On the 6th of December 1996 serial production in SenerTec’s own facilities started, concentrating mostly on the German market where awareness of Combined Heat and Power was growing. Within the first year of serial production 450 units were sold and a handful of SenerTec partners guaranteed the installation, after-sales service and maintenance of the units. Because the sales figures increased, a larger partner network was required to cover all of Germany. To facilitate information flow and updates on regulations and marketing strategies 30 SenerTec centres were created. These SenerTec centres with their partners can guarantee a short reaction time by all means to the end users satisfaction.
Nowadays the SenerTec partner network can cover Germany entirely with more than 350 SenerTec partners and 30 SenerTec Centres. Penetration of the European market started with Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. A similar distribution network was applied to these countries to assure the same level of support to the end user. In March 2002 the British BAXI Group acquired SenerTec and started the market penetration in the U.K. and Italy. With a strong and reliable partner, BAXI Technologies and SenerTec established the first SenerTec branch in Warwick, U.K.
In 2009 SenerTec achieved more than 20,000 sold Dachs CHP units. With about 350 Partners and 30 Centres in Germany and about 40 Partners in Europe, SenerTec is the worldwide leader in the CHP technology.
