Daikin Air Conditioning Italy Spa
Daikin Industries Ltd. is the Japanese multinational set up in 1924, world leader of air conditioning systems for residential, commercial and industrial applications. Today, Daikin operates in 135 Countries, has over 40 thousand employees and 37 production centres. During the 2009 financial year (April 2009 - March 2010), annual sales were 1,024 billion yen**, or 8,000 million Euro.
Over recent years, the multinational has added to its extensive range of residential and commercial air conditioning systems and variable refrigerant volumes with a range of hydronic systems through the acquisition of McQuay (Oyl Group). Daikin currently has two fundamental objectives: to increase its presence in strategic sectors such as heating, and service. It is with these in mind that it acquired Rotex, a leading German manufacturer of advanced heating solutions at the end of 2008 and it incorporated McQuay Service into its own organisation in 2009, entering the high added value service business. Daikin intends to offer building air conditioning services by supporting consultants and installers in the planning, design and installation of systems, including maintenance and energy optimisation. In 2009, for the third year running, Daikin Industries was included in the “Global 100”, the worldwide list of companies which have adopted the best approaches in risk management and in environmental opportunities, social responsibility and corporate government. Daikin is also one of the most important companies in the fluorochemical refrigerant industry. The refrigerants produced by Daikin and used in its systems are non-toxic, non-flammable and free of chlorine atoms. They stand out for their high thermodynamic efficiency. The Japanese multinational invests 4% of its annual sales in research and development activities. Daikin has developed the technology which enables the use of a low environmental impact, natural refrigerant such as carbon dioxide in VRV commercial air conditioning systems, as an alternative to synthetic HFC-based (hydro-fluorocarbon) refrigerants. Moreover, the company has eliminated lead and other pollutants from its production process. Daikin’s commitment to producing systems which have a minimal impact on the environment has led to the development of air conditioners for residential use which have a recyclability factor of 95%.
Daikin has been operating in Europe since 1973, when a 150,000 m2 factory was opened in Oostende, Belgium, producing approximately 520,000 appliances a year. Another two factories were added in the Czech Republic in Pilsen and in Brno. The approximately 900,000 appliances produced every year in Pilsenover in a surface area of 117,000 m2 are intended for the European residential market. For the 2009 financial year (April 2009 – March 2010) Group annual sales at the European level totalled 1,600 million Euro.

Since 2008, even at the European level, Daikin has implemented internal control systems in compliance with the Japanese J-SOx regulations which ensure the reliability and accuracy of financial reporting in accordance with the law.
In 2005, Daikin Italy decided to make its activities Zero Impact, together with Lifegate, contributing to the requalification and protection of a growing wooded area of approximately one thousand 580m2 in Costa Rica and approximately 80 thousand square metres in the Ticino Park. In 2009, again in partnership with Lifegate, against a consumption level of 567,326 kWh it avoided emitting into the atmosphere 301.25 tonnes of CO2, equal to 344 barrels of crude oil.
