32 billion euros from wind power to EU
The “Green Growth” study, which highlights the important achievements of wind energy, was presented at EWEA 2012 (European Wind Energy Association).
In only three years 2007/2010 the wind industry has made a contribution to the GDP (gross domestic product) in the EU by 33% while only in 2010, the sector recorded a growth twice that of total EU GDP by bringing in speakers Europe about 32 billion euros.
Wind power also has ambitious goals for the future, it believes that in 2020 its contribution to GDP will be tripled with a steady increase in jobs.
The results of wind energy:
- in 2010 has contributed to the GDP of the EU for 32 billion euros;
- in the period 2007/2010 has created a 30% of new jobs compared to a rise in European unemployment of 9.6%;
- in 2010 exported goods and services for 5.7 billion euros net;
- in 2010 has helped to reduce fuel costs for about 5.71 billion euros;
- the wind sector has invested 5% of its turnover in research and development.
According Arthouros Zervos – EWEA President - the wind industry as it fights the recession continues to grow, helping to create new jobs and stimulate exports
However, for this sector to continue to grow and succeed in achieving the ambitious goals it has set for the future, it is essential that the conditions will be respected. Specifically, we require the stable frameworks and more convinced implementation goals in 2020, an energy policy later in 2020 that places binding targets, a joint distribution network and a single European energy market and increased incentives on the part of ´European Union.
