2010 ROAD SHOW: ELECTRIC ENGINES AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN INDUSTRY
Leroy Somer responds actively to industry demands of:
• Energy efficiency
• Production increase
• Energy consumption optimization
• Environment preservation
Together with its partner Enel.si, a Enel Green company, Leroy Somer organized a Road Show addressed to main industrial operators of Electric Engines and Energy Efficiency in industry, offering different technologies and solutions analysis available nowadays in the market, and its economic advantages:
What do European directives impose as far as high performance engines are concerned?
Which are Variable Speed or Permanent Magnets technologies real advantages?
How can we evaluate electricity consumption reduction and get available incentives?
Electric engine energy consumption
The European industry system uses about half of the entire electric energy produced and more than 70% of electric energy absorbed by industry is for electric engines.
A European Commission study underlines the possibility of saving about 29% of this energy with interventions with investment return time shorter than 3 years.
New European Directive
The Energy Using Products directive of 2009, July:
1. Adopts stricter rules to measure electric engine performances (IEC 60034-30)
2. Gives new electric engines classification based on performance
3. Asks member states to force high performance three-phase cage induction use according to a given calendar
From June 2010, in fact, Eff2 and Eff3 engines are not in the market anymore.
Variable speed adoption
Recent evaluations by European Union technical committees confirm how electronic drives adoption, guaranteeing engines speed control, is the most efficient form of energy saving with best productivity and quality.
´Energy Audit, incentives and Energy saving
The European directive forces industry to adopt and produce only high performance engine, that is to say more expensive engines because construction procedures imply more use of copper, aluminium and magnetic plate scrap.
For industry, therefore, high performance engines adoption can be a unique opportunity.
Road Show
The Road Show is aimed at providing industrial operators with tools and evaluation criteria to make the right technological choices and meet industry needs in terms of productivity increase and energy consumption reduction. It will cover 12 different towns, allowing real experience exchange.
Besides conferences some technologies and solutions offered by Leroy Somer and Enel.si will be showed.
