UE about to introduce the PAR, Patentino Alternative Refrigerants
In January the revision of the European Regulation on F-Gases
However, even if natural refrigerants such as ammonia, CO2, hydrocarbons or HFOs are less detrimental for the environment compared to F-Gases, they entail a number of other risks: high toxicity, flammability and high operating pressure.
Precisely for these gases high risks, the European Commission has established that only qualified and certified operators will be allowed to handle them thanks to a dedicated Patentino for alternative refrigerants (PAR) issued similarly to the Patentino of the Refrigeration Engineer (PIF).
In the meantime, considering the European Regulation on fluorinated gases, the European Parliament inserted in the calendar the revision for the 13th January 2014. That day will be clear which will be the destiny of the F-gases pre-charge prohibition: if it will be abolished as some European associations asked or rather modified as AREA demanded.
